The bigger they come

But last night it wasn't size that mattered. Two of the biggest favourites of this year's World Championships were going to take their gold medals last night. Not even good old Usain was such a clear favourite, after all he was expected to get some competition. Last night it was Yelena Isinbayeva and Kenenisa Bekele who were there to fetch their medals with just a short competition in the way first. What a fall Isinbayeva had! Not just the 4 metres 75 that winner Anna Roqowska managed to jump over in the pole vault, but all the way down to last place! Bekele made no mistake though. The evening's second big favourite took home the 10,000 final in grand style in the fastest time ever in a major competition.

Usain Bolt was seen again briefly this morning when he was spotted jogging his way through his 200 heat and women high jumpers Blanka Vlasic and Ariane Friedrich flew through qualification, promising us a memorable final. Oh, but how I miss Sweden's Kajsa Berqvist!

Which nation will win the 100 relay? Anyone fancy putting their money on Jamaica? Last night, in the shadow of the men's final the previous evening, Jamaica took gold and silver, and together with the men's gold and bronze, it's going to be difficult to do anything about them. The USA is going to have to rely on strength in numbers. Has Jamaica got four sprinters that can compare with four Americans?

All the best.
