The women's Euros group stage will be completed tonight with the Russia-Italy and Sweden-England ties in Group C while Groups A and B were decided this weekend. Undefeated Germany made no mistake in their final group match, beating Iceland 1-0. Norway and France managed a draw which ensured they both advanced to the quarterfinals. France qualified with their second place behind Germany with Norway qualifying with their third place. Norway are guaranteed advancement as one of two third-placed nations as Denmark, one of the favourites beforehand, lost to the Netherlands the night before in Group A. Group leaders Finland were already ensured a quarterfinal place so their 1-0 loss to the Ukraine was of no importance.
The men's professional leagues are kicking off throughout Europe. The summer's big spenders, Manchester City in England and Real Madrid in Spain have yet to convince me their invested millions have been worth it. In England, Manchester City has certainly had their best start in the Premier League but they haven't come up against any stiff opposition yet. The season's only one game old in Spain but the Madrid team didn't impress in their 3-2 win over Deportivo. Inter seem to be favourites to retain the Scudetto in Italy after an impressive 4-0 score line against local Milan rivals AC. Closest rivals seem to be Juventus after a 3-1 victory away to Roma. Plenty left to play though.
All the best.
