Penalty killing has been a problem for the Detroit Redwings all season. That's what allowed the Pittsburgh Penguins back into the Stanley Cup final series once it moved to Pittsburgh after Detroit gained a 2-0 advantage at home. In game four last Thursday, it was their power play that let them down instead. Things were going fine for the Wings in the middle period when Brad Stuart gave them the lead and then they were given back-to-back power-plays from 5:44 in the period. However, nothing came from the power-plays and the Penguins even scored a shorthanded goal in the second. These events shifted the momentum and within a six-minute period Detroit went from being a goal up to trailing by two. When the series moved back to Detroit on Saturday however, the Wings got it all right. A shut-out and three power-play goals within 10 minutes in a four-goal second period contributed to a 5-0 Detroit victory. A contributing factor might have been that Detroit was one man short only three times in the whole match, Pittsburgh, on the other hand, received all of twelve penalties.

Saturday's match got off to a really hectic start. The first period had only nine faceoffs including the start of the game and the first stoppage came after 7.16!

Now the circus goes back to Pittsburgh again with the Penguins forced to win the match to stay in the final series. Detroit, on the other hand, have two chances to retain the Stanley Cup, one of those being on home ice in match seven.

All the best.
