Forsberg tries again

Well, at least there was one week without any news on the Phoeninx Coyotes.

After missing the pre-season training camp, it was assumed (at least officially) that trainer Wayne Gretzky would join the team in good time before the start of the season. Now the club has realized what the rest of us expected; Gretzky has resigned from the troubled club. The new coach will be ex-Dallas Stars Dave Tippett, who was announced at a news conference last Thursday.

The Gretzky resignation had been rumoured for some time since the trials and tribulations of the Coyotes were dragged before the bankruptcy court.  Gretzky himself announced his resignation on his web site before the club could say anything. Nothing has been said of his small holding in the club.

Sweden's Peter Forsberg, one of the biggest in NHL's history, is trying again to get his career moving. This time in his home club of Modo in Örnsköldsvik. His presence in the club and in Sweden has been eagerly awaited by Swedish fans and his comeback has been a success, as long as you don't ask the man himself. He's scored three goals in Modo's three games so far and some interest has been shown from some NHL clubs. But after last night's match against HV71 in the Swedish Elitserien, Forsberg announced that he had a stress fracture in his sensitive foot and will miss Thursday's match. Although his hopes of returning to the NHL are diminishing with every step he takes on weak foot, he will wait until his new injury is healed before making any decisions about his future.

All the best.
