Comebacks, depth and turnovers

Carolina Hurricanes will tonight against Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to repeat what they have done in their two previous play-off series in the Eastern Conference: a comeback from being 0-1 down after the first game in the series. In the two rounds leading up to the conference final, the Hurricanes have lost the initial battle each time, first against the New Jersey Devils (4-3 series win) and then Boston Bruins (also 4-3). Pittsburgh's big star, Sidney Crosby, will be looking to play a more dominant role than he did in the first match, where his passes seemed to be most prominent.

Depth and turnovers seems to be the story behind Detroit Redwings 2-0 over Chicago Blackhawks. Depth in that each and every night it seems somebody else in the Wings line-up gets the goal that ensures victory. In their latest match against the Hawks on Tuesday night it was Mikael Samuelsson that got the game winning goal, 5.14 into overtime. Big stars Datsyuk, Hossa and Holmström went away goalless. In the two games so far, Chicago has given away the puck on their opponents blue line resulting in goals three times. In the latest game, two turnovers on the blue line gave the win to Detroit despite Chicago scoring the first goal, peppering the Wing's goal with 39 shots, scoring on the power play and eventually forcing overtime. Chicago will now have home advantage to attempt to first reduce and then nullify the 2-0 deficit they have to Detroit. Detroit will be hoping to take at least one victory so they can take the series on home ice and advance to their second Stanley Cup final in a row.

All the best.
